Device pairing summary:
Your abode starter kit comes with all of its devices already paired with the gateway. During the setup process, the user activates the device by either inserting the battery or removing a battery tab then simply naming the device via the abode mobile or web app.
When adding (pairing) a device to the gateway, this will require the user to follow the pairing process which can be done from the abode mobile app or from the abode web app.
Adding/Pairing a device into the gateway:
Place the gateway into pairing mode by using the abode mobile or web app.
When using the mobile app, tap the Settings option on the lower right of the screen, then click on Add Device, and follow the wizard instructions.
If the type of device you're adding is not listed, click on the Other Device option on the screen.
When using your web app to add a device, log into your account at my.goabode.com and click on the + ADD icon located just above the Device list, then follow the wizard instructions. If the device you're pairing is not listed, and you don’t see an image of the device, then click on the Other Devices tab at the top of the screen. This will place the gateway into the pairing mode so it will listen for any device that you're trying to add to the gateway. You should see a spinning circle that says Searching for Devices.
Once the gateway is in pairing mode, the various devices you're adding will have its own specific process that you will need to follow, so it will be recognized by the gateway. Be sure to follow the devices install document for pairing.
Door/window sensor: (Mini door sensor that comes in the starter kit)
There are 2 components for this device:
- The smaller magnet
- The larger transmitting sensor (has two ribs located on the side to help you align the magnet between those two ribs. The magnet needs to be within 1/2" or closer to the transmitter.
- The proper alignment is essential so the gateway will know when the door is opened or closed. As a best practice, we recommend pairing each device before installing it, then holding the magnet to the side of the transmitter then pull the magnet away and the gateway should sound the chime.
Note: Please make sure the gateway is in pairing mode before attempting to pair any devices.
Pairing the door/window senors:
- The battery should already be installed, just pull the battery tab out of the back of the sensor.
- Press in the top face of the sensor for the big door sensors or the button on the back of the mini sensor.
- If the sensor sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within a few seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
Test the sensor before installing it. Move the small magnet to the ribbed side of the mini sensor. When pulling the magnet away from the sensor, the gateway chime should sound. This should help you during the installation process.
Motion camera sensor:
- Make sure there are no batteries installed in the sensor (Loosen the screw on the bottom of the sensor to access batteries).
- Prior to inserting the batteries, press the clear button on the front of the sensor 5 times (this resets the device), then insert the batteries.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode, then press in and the clear button on the face of the sensor until a white bright light flashes one time, then release.
- If the sensor sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to 15 seconds.
- Add and then name the sensor.
- If the motion camera is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Motion sensor (No camera):
- If the battery is installed, then pull tab from the back of the sensor. If not, then insert the battery.
- Allow a full 35 seconds before pairing so the motion sensor can fully power up.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode, then press the clear button on the face one time then release.
- If the sensor sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to 15 seconds.
- Add and then name the sensor.
- If the motion camera is not successfully added, repeat the steps above, or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Key fob device:
- The coin cell battery should already be installed.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Press in the X on the lower left of the key fob for 5 full seconds then release.
- The small red LED on the face of the device should flicker when pressing in the button.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new device should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to 15 seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
- If the key fob is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Keypad device:
- If a battery is installed, then pull the tab from the back of the device. If not, then insert the battery.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Press in and hold the # and * keys at the same time for 5 full seconds, then release.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, then the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within a few seconds.
After pairing is complete, press the 0 key on the keypad 4 times. Then press the * key once. Then press the * key once again, then the 9 key, then press the unlock key 3 times slowly (lower right key).
To change or add pin codes for the keypad, login at my.goabode.com and click on the Account tab on the left of the screen, then on the System Settings tab just below the Account tab, then scroll all the way down the System Settings screen to the bottom of the page to Keypad Pin Codes.
User 1 (already listed) is the master and cannot be deleted, but it can be edited. Click on the Edit icon to the left of the trashcan then add a name for this user and change the default code using 4 digits. The selected number cannot be repeated.

Water sensor:
- If a battery is installed, then pull the tab from the back of the device. If not, then insert the battery.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode
- Press the button on the back one time, its located inside the device but you can press it by pressing on the rubber back. The location to press should be marked.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within a few seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
- If the key fob is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Power Switch:
- Before inserting the power switch into the AC outlet, press the clear button on the front of the device five times then plug it into the wall AC outlet.
- Ensure the gateway is in the pairing mode.
- Press in the clear power switch button until it blinks red one time then release. This may take up to 3 to 15 seconds.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, then the new device should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to15 seconds.
- Add the device then name the device.
- If the device is not successfully added, repeat the steps above, or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Status indicator device:
- Loosen the screw to access the battery compartment.
- Before inserting the battery, reset the sensor by pressing the small button inside the sensor 5 times, then insert the battery.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Press in and hold down the small button until the face of the sensor flashes red one time, then release the button. It should flash within 3 to 15 seconds or more.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new device should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to 15 seconds.
- If the device is not found, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Acoustic glass break sensor:
- Loosen the screw to remove the cover of the sensor and insert battery.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Press in and hold the button down on the inside of the sensor for 5 seconds then release.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within a few seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
- When replacing the cover, be sure that the cover is completely closed when tightening the screw so the tamper switch spring will be pressed in.
- If the device is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
**Note: This glass break can detect breaking glass from up to 25’ away.
Shock Vibration sensor:
- If the clear battery tab is protruding out of the side tray of the sensor you can pull it out to enable the battery. If no tab is present, then pull out the battery tray located on the side of the sensor. You may need to use the point of a paperclip to pry open the tray. Insert the battery and slide the tray closed.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Locate a paper clip and use one end to stick in the small hole in the face of the sensor and press it in and hold the hidden button down for 5 seconds then release.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, the new sensor should show up on the app's Add Device screen within a few seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
- If the sensor is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
Temperature, humidity & Light sensor:
- Loosen the screw to access the battery compartment.
- Before inserting the battery, reset the sensor by pressing the small button inside the sensor 5 times, then insert the battery.
- Ensure the gateway is in pairing mode.
- Press in and hold down the small button until the face of the sensor flashes red one time, then release the button. It should flash within 3 to 15 seconds or more.
- If the device sends the pairing signal to the gateway, then the new device should show up on the app's Add Device screen within 3 to 5 seconds.
- Add and then name the device.
- If the sensor is not successfully added, repeat the steps above or contact the abode support team by clicking HERE
