Shortcuts Guide (iOS)

Triggering Abode actions with Siri or from your iPhone home screen

Written by Alex S

iOS Shortcuts let you run Abode actions from a button on your home screen or Today View, or by speaking a command to Siri. You can use Shortcuts to arm your system, run a Quick Action, check device status, or manage an active alarm.

Creating an Abode Shortcut

1. Install the Shortcuts app from the App Store if it is not already on your device.

2. Tap the + button in the top right to create a new shortcut.

3. Name the shortcut. This name is what you will say to Siri to run it.

4. Tap the icon on the top left to add a custom icon and color.

5. Tap Add Action, then search for Abode or select it under the Apps category.

6. Set the Abode action you want this shortcut to perform.

7. Tap the X in the top right to save.

Running a Shortcut with Siri

Once created, say Hey Siri followed by the name you gave the shortcut. For example, Hey Siri, Good Morning will run your Good Morning shortcut.

Adding a Shortcut as a widget on your home screen

1. Make sure your device is running iOS 14 or iPadOS 15 or later.

2. On your home screen, swipe left to go to the Today View.

3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.

4. Tap the grey + icon in the top left corner.

5. Search for and select Shortcuts, then choose the Abode shortcut you created.

6. Tap Add Widget, then tap Done. You can press and hold the widget to drag it to a different location.
