Door/Window Sensor (original)

Pairing, installation, and technical specifications

Written by Alex S

Installing the classic Door/Window Sensor is quick and easy. The sensor is fixed to the door frame or window frame, and an actuating magnet is fixed to the door or window. When the door or window opens, the magnet moves away from the sensor, activating an internal magnetic switch that transmits an alarm signal to the Abode hub. The device also communicates signal problems and low battery situations.

Pairing Guide

!

NOTE

If your sensor was included in an Abode kit, it may already be paired to the hub. In that case, skip Step 2 below and proceed directly to installation.

1. Slowly pull out the clear plastic battery insulator tab on the back of the door/window sensor.

2. Use the Abode app to add the device to the hub. Follow the instructions provided in the app.

Installation Guide

Before placing the sensor and magnet, review the following guidelines:

• Self-adhesive installation: remove the protective covering from one side of the double-sided adhesive pads and apply firmly to the back of the sensor and the magnet.

• Before installing, inspect the area to ensure the sensor and magnet will fit and align properly. If the magnet is too far from the sensor, the sensor will not detect when the door or window is opened or closed.

• Install the sensor on the fixed surface (door frame or window frame) and mount the magnet on the moving object (door or window).

• In some cases the door frame protrudes further than the door surface. It may then be necessary to place the magnet on the frame and the sensor on the door.

• The alignment dots must be as close as possible to each other, with no more than a 1-inch gap.

Placing the sensor in the desired location

Clean the surface with a non-oil-based cleanser before placing the sensor and magnet.

1. Place the sensor in its desired position first.

2. Enable test mode on the sensor by pressing the top of the sensor once.

3. Hold the magnet close to the sensor and align using the alignment dots. As you move the magnet close, the red LED will flash 6 times then stop. When pulling the magnet away, the LED will flash 6 times to indicate the sensor is being activated.

4. Position the magnet so that when the door opens or closes, the sensor activates. The LED test mode lasts for 3 minutes, then returns to normal operation.

Remove the protective film from the adhesive strip on the magnet and press it to the desired location.

!

NOTE

Do not install on a surface with peeling or cracked paint. This could cause the sensor or magnet to fall off, potentially triggering the alarm if the system is armed.

After installation, place the sensor in test mode again and confirm the LED flashes when the door is opened and closed. Lock the door and shake it to ensure the LED does not flash.
