Slim Strip Door/Window Sensor

The Slim Strip Door/Window Sensor is a small door sensor that is installed on the door and door frame, and is low-profile for a discreet aesthetic. The Slim Strip Door/Window Sensor monitors the opening and closing of a door or window. When the door opens, the magnet moves away from the sensor, causing the device to transmit a door open signal to the Abode hub. When the door closes and the sensor detects the magnet again, it will transmit a door close signal. The sensor is a powerful home security and home automation device. Use it to trigger burglary alarms and trigger CUE Automations to enhance your smart home.

Parts Overview

1. LED Status Light (only visible when on)

2. Pairing /Test Button

3. Magnet

LED Status Light Guide

In normal operation the LED Status Light remains off except in the following situations:

  • When the sensor battery is low

  • While in test mode, when the magnet is moved close to the sensor and when it’s pulled away

Pairing Guide

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the Abode App installed on your mobile device. In the Abode App on your iOS or Android device, select the Menu (≡).

2. Tap "+ Add Device" from the list.

3. Tap "Door & Window Sensors".

4. Tap "Slim Strip Sensor".

5. Have the sensor and magnet unboxed and ready to setup, then tap "Continue".

6. Press the Pairing/Test Button one time using a thin tool (like a paper clip). The red LED status light will flicker and the device will be added. When the device is added successfully, a green checkmark will show next to the discovered device.

7. The last page will ask that you name your new sensor, then your Slim Strip Sensor will be paired and ready to use.

After pairing the Slim Strip Sensor with the hub you can perform a simple test by placing the thin magnet over the area where the hole in the sensor is located. You will see the alignment impression in the sensor where you can align the magnet. When you pull the magnet away from the sensor, you should hear the hub chime (if sounds are enabled), and see a door open event appear in the Timeline of the Abode App. This can be useful when choosing the location to install the sensor so that the sensor is installed within wireless range of the Abode hub.

Test Mode

In Test Mode the LED status light will flicker when triggered. The Slim Strip Sensor can be put into Test Mode for 3 minutes by pressing the Pairing/Test Button once. Each press on the Pairing/Test Button will transmit a test signal to the Abode Hub. Test Mode will automatically exit after the 3 minutes and the sensor returns to the Normal Operation mode

Installation Guide

Installation Tips

  • There must be a gap of at least 0.25 inch (6mm) for the sensor body and magnet to fit properly for installation. If you do not have this required gap, you cannot use the Slim Strip Sensor in the setting and may consider the Mini Door Sensor or Recessed Door Sensor instead.

  • Avoid mounting the sensor near metal objects such as door locks and metallic door frames that could possibly cause the magnet to malfunction.

  • When mounting the door sensor and the magnet, make sure both are aligned to each other to allow optimal opening/closing detection.

  • The distance between the door sensor and magnet when the door is closed should be no more than 0.50 inch (12.7mm).

  1. Remove the adhesive backing from the long sensor body and firmly press the sensor on to the desired door frame or window frame. It is best to mount the sensor body to the frame rather than the moving door or window.

  2. Remove the adhesive backing from the magnet and firmly press it on to the desired door or window. Make sure when in a closed state that the magnet aligns with the glossy area of the sensor body near the Pairing/Learn button. The magnet should be applied parallel to the sensor body as shown in the diagram O below. Do not install the magnet as shown in diagram X below.

Battery Guide

The battery in the Slim Strip Sensor cannot be replaced. It has an estimated battery life of up to 8 years under normal operating conditions. The sensor is also capable of detecting low battery. When the battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the Abode Hub and you will receive a notification in the Abode App. The LED status light on the sensor body will light up when the sensor battery is low. The Slim Strip Sensor operating temperature is 14° to 113° F. Extreme cold temperatures will damage the battery, so use caution when using this device on perimeter doors or windows if it is exposed to harsh environments.
