Acoustic Glass Break Sensor

Detecting glass breakage up to 25 feet away, before an intruder gets in

Written by Cath Smith
Updated over a week ago

The Acoustic Glass Break Sensor listens for the specific sound of breaking glass across several glass types and thicknesses. It uses dual-frequency detection to verify both the low thud of impact and the high-frequency shatter, reducing false alarms while ensuring genuine break-ins are detected instantly.

NOTE

While the sensor minimizes false alarms when the system is armed in Away mode, unusually loud sounds like pots falling or very loud music may trigger it when you're home with the system in Home mode. You can reduce sensitivity to lower this risk — see Sensitivity Settings below.

Part

What it does

1. Green LED

Monitors low-frequency sounds

2. Red LED

Monitors high-frequency sounds. Both must trigger for an alarm

3. Microphone

Picks up glass break sounds up to 25 feet away

4. DIP Switch

Adjusts sensitivity (factory-set to maximum range)

5. Battery Compartment

Houses the CR123A 3V Lithium battery

6. Pairing / Test Button

Press once to send pairing signal; use to test the sensor

7. Tamper Switch

Activates if cover is opened or device is removed from mounting

8. Breakaway Area

Knockout mounting holes. Detaches to activate tamper if sensor is forcibly removed

Pairing your Acoustic Glass Break Sensor

1. Insert the battery to power on the device.

2. Open the Abode app and navigate to Add Device.

3. Select the Glass Break Sensor from the device list.

4. Press the Pairing/Test button once to transmit the pairing code to the Hub.

Installing your Acoustic Glass Break Sensor

Where to mount it

• Mount on the ceiling or wall within 25 feet of the glass you want to protect

• The sensor has a 360° horizontal detection angle. One device can cover an entire room

• There must be no obstacles between the sensor and the protected window. Curtains, drapes, tall furniture, and walls reduce detection range

• Mount away from sound sources such as speakers, air conditioners, or motors

• Keep as much distance from windows or exterior doors as possible to reduce interference from outside noise

Adhesive mounting

1. Clean the ceiling or wall surface thoroughly.

2. Apply the included double-sided tape to the back of the sensor.

3. Press firmly onto the surface for 30 seconds.

Screw mounting

1. Use the Breakaway Area knockouts on the back cover as a template to mark screw positions.

2. Drill holes and insert wall plugs if needed.

3. Screw the back cover to the wall, then attach the sensor main body to the cover.

Sensitivity settings

Two DIP switches on the sensor let you adjust detection range and sensitivity. The factory default is maximum range. Reducing sensitivity lowers the detection range but reduces the chance of false alarms in occupied spaces.

TIP

Refer to the sensitivity chart included in the product packaging for DIP switch combinations and their corresponding detection ranges.

Battery

The sensor uses a CR123A 3V Lithium battery. When the battery is low, a notification will appear in the Abode app.

When replacing: remove the old battery, press the Pairing/Test button a couple of times to discharge any remaining voltage, then insert the new battery.
