The occupancy sensor is a passive, infrared motion sensor with a built-in temperature, light, and humidity sensors. The sensor can be configured as either a security sensor, which activates the alarm when triggered, or an occupancy/vacancy sensor, which controls home automation or lighting functions via the system automation controls. Both the temperature and light illumination sensor can also be used to trigger home automation devices.

Opening the sensor:

Remove the sensor and battery from the box.

In the Abode web app, navigate to the Devices page, and then click on the “+”.

In the Add Device dialog, select the Other Devices tab. Your Gateway is now ready to pair your device.

Remove the magnetic base from the sensor

Open the sensor by holding the IR sensor facing your left hand, then twist sensor in opposite directions - left hand away from you and your right hand towards.


Adding the sensor to your system:

  1. Insert the battery.

  2. Find the sensor in the add device flow under "Environmental Sensors" (for the web app, run these instructions under "Other Devices"

  3. For current version of the sensor, press the function button on the inside of the sensor 5 times

    1. For older version of the sensor, (purchased before June 2019) press and hold the function button for 15 seconds.

  4. Two devices should show up in your device list - LM and Occupancy Sensor. If only one device shows up, press the Function/Pairing button again and repeat until both devices appear.

  5. Select Add next to the devices (one at a time) and then follow the wizard to complete the pairing process.

  6. Reassemble the sensor.

That’s it! The Multi Sensor is now paired with your Abode system.


If pairing is unsuccessful, remove battery from device then press the function button 3 times to bleed off voltage from the circuit, then reinsert battery and repeat the pairing process.


Installing

The sensor can sit on a flat surface or be mounted on the wall. The base of the sensor has two mounting holes used for installation on a surface with fixing screws and plugs provided. The bracket is adjustable to provide the aiming of the sensor in an upward or downward position. When mounting on a wall, it is recommend to mount it 6 feet to 7 feet from the floor looking down at an angle. The motion sensor has a detection coverage of a 120° to the maximum range of about 34 feet.


The LED indicator is located at the center of the IR lens and will light up when operating.

When using the device for security, place it in a position such that an intruder would normally move across the motion sensor’s field of view and be sure it will not be obstructed by curtains, hanging ornaments, etc. Do not install the motion sensor at direct sunlight or close to heating/cooling appliances and vents. Do not point the motion sensor at heat source such as heater, radiator, or windows. It is important to avoid location where pets are located as the motion sensor is not pet immune, and they will trigger this sensor.


When using the mounting holes on the sensor’s base, drill holes in the surface. Insert the wall plugs if fixing it into plaster or brick. Screw the base into the wall plugs then loosen the angle adjustment screws and tilt the sensor until you are satisfied with the detection angle. Tighten the screws to lock the sensor into place.


Replacing the Battery

The sensor uses one CR123A 3V Lithium battery. To replace battery, the sensors main body must be removed from base to access battery compartment. Remove the base from the sensor by holding the sensor in one hand with the base pointed down then twist the base counter clockwise to release, and remove it to gain access to the battery compartment. Remove the back cover of the sensor by turning it clockwise and then pulling.


The battery compartment has a strip which should be pressed under the battery when battery is inserted. When removing battery, simply lift the strip. Press the function button on the inside of the sensor twice to fully discharge before inserting new battery.

Motion Sensor Settings

You can configure the Motion Sensor to act in different ways for both Home and Away Mode, depending on what your requirements are


Inactive - the Motion Sensor is inactive, and motion will not trigger an alarm.

Active after countdown timer - the Motion Sensor will count down the entry timer when motion is detected, and then trigger an alarm

Countdown on Door Sensor -the Motion Sensor will count down the entry timer when motion is detected, and then trigger an alarm, but ONLY if a door sensor has been opened prior. If motion is detected without a door sensor being opened, then an alarm will trigger immediately on motion being detected

Active Immediately - an alarm will be triggered immediately on motion being detected
