The Multi Sensor combines a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor with built-in temperature, light, and humidity monitoring. You can configure it as a security sensor that triggers alarms when motion is detected, or as an occupancy sensor that drives CUE automations, like turning lights on when someone enters a room.
Configuring motion sensor behavior
You can set how the Multi Sensor responds when your system is armed in both Home and Away modes:
Setting | What happens |
Inactive | Motion sensor is off. No alarm triggered |
Active after countdown timer | Starts the entry countdown when motion is detected, then triggers an alarm |
Countdown on door sensor | Countdown only starts if a door sensor was opened first. Motion without a prior door open triggers an alarm immediately |
Active immediately | Alarm triggers the instant motion is detected |
Pairing your Multi Sensor
The Multi Sensor pairs as two separate devices: an Occupancy Sensor and an LM (Light/Humidity/Temperature) sensor. Both will appear in your Abode app device list.
1. Open the Abode app and navigate to Add Device.
2. Select "Environmental Sensors" from the device list. (In the Abode app, use the standard method; the web app uses "Other Devices".)
3. Open the sensor: remove the magnetic base, then hold the sensor with the IR lens facing your left hand. Twist in opposite directions (left hand away, right hand toward you) to open.
4. Insert the battery.
5. For current sensors: press the Function button inside the sensor 5 times. For older sensors (purchased before June 2019): press and hold the Function button for 15 seconds.
6. Two devices should appear in your add device list: "LM" and "Occupancy Sensor". If only one appears, press the Function button again and wait for both to appear.
7. Tap Add next to each device and follow the wizard to name and complete each one.
8. Reassemble the sensor.
✓ | TIP If pairing fails, remove the battery, press the Function button 3 times to discharge the circuit, then reinsert the battery and repeat the process. |
Installing your Multi Sensor
Placement tips
• Mount 6 to 7 feet above the floor for best motion detection
• The motion sensor has a 120° detection angle with a range of up to 34 feet
• Position the sensor so that a potential intruder would move across its field of view, not directly toward it
• Do not aim at curtains, hanging objects, heat sources, or areas where pets roam:. The sensor is not pet-immune
• Do not mount in direct sunlight or near heating/cooling vents
Mounting
The sensor can sit on any flat surface or be wall-mounted using the two mounting holes on the adjustable base.
1. Choose your location and hold the base against the wall.
2. Mark and drill holes, inserting wall plugs if fixing into plaster or brick.
3. Screw the base into the wall.
4. Loosen the angle adjustment screws, tilt the sensor to your desired detection angle, then tighten to lock.
Replacing the battery
The Multi Sensor uses one CR123A 3V Lithium battery.
1. Remove the sensor body from the base by holding the sensor and twisting the base counterclockwise.
2. Remove the back cover by turning it clockwise, then pull.
3. Lift the battery using the strip inside the compartment. Press the Function button twice to fully discharge.
4. Insert a new CR123A battery with the strip tucked underneath.
5. Replace the back cover and reattach the base.
