How to Create Device Groups

Organizing your devices by room or any category you choose

Written by Alex S

Device groups let you organize your Abode devices into collections such as Living Room, Upstairs, or Garage. By default, devices are grouped by type. You can create any grouping structure that suits your home. Group preferences are set per user, so each person on your account can have their own layout.

Creating a new device group

1. In the Abode app, tap the Devices tab.

2. Tap the + icon at the top right.

3. Tap Add Group.

4. Select a preset room name, or scroll down and tap Custom to enter your own group name.

5. Select the devices you want in this group. Each device can only belong to one group at a time.

6. Tap Done. Your new group will appear in the Devices tab.

Things to know about groups

• A device can only be in one group at a time

• Ungrouped devices appear at the bottom of the Devices tab below all named groups

• Groups appear in alphabetical order in the Devices tab and cannot be manually reordered there

• Groups on the Dashboard can be reordered using the Edit Dashboard function

• Device names cannot be edited from within a group. Rename devices in their individual settings

• Devices within a group are ordered alphabetically and cannot be manually reordered

Device Faults group

When a device has a fault, it is automatically placed into a Device Faults group shown as an exclamation mark at the top of the Devices tab. This group only appears when there are active faults. Once all faults are resolved, the icon disappears.

Deleting a group

1. Navigate into the group in the Devices tab.

2. Tap the Settings cog icon.

3. Tap Delete Group. The devices in that group will move to the Ungrouped section.
