! | NOTE If your Keypad shows a constant orange light, there is an active system fault. This will drain your battery faster than usual. Open the Abode app to identify and resolve the fault. |
Pairing your Keypad 2
You only need to do this once. The process takes about 2 minutes.
1. Open the Abode app and navigate to Add Device.
2. Select Keypad 2 from the device list.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts — the app will guide you through the full pairing process.
4. If the pairing stalls, press and hold the pairing button on the back of the Keypad until the app continues.
✓ | TIP Your Keypad 2 will appear as two devices after pairing: a Keypad and an Occupancy Sensor. This is expected — the Occupancy Sensor is your motion detector and can be used independently in CUE automations. |
! | NOTE By default, the Keypad's motion sensor will not trigger an alarm when your system is armed. If you want motion to trigger alarms, you can enable this in the Abode App. |
Installing your Keypad 2
Your Keypad 2 can sit flat on any surface or mount to a wall using the included magnetic mount. Wall mounting gives you the best motion detection coverage.
Where to mount it
• Mount your Keypad 4.5 feet (approximately 1.4 meters) above the floor for best motion detection coverage
• Position it near an entry point — like a hallway or front door — so it's easy to arm/disarm as you come and go
• The motion sensor has 90° coverage up to 3 meters, so avoid pointing it directly at a window or heat source to reduce false triggers
How to mount it
1. Choose your location and hold the magnetic mounting plate against the wall to mark your screw positions.
2. If mounting on drywall, plaster, or brick, use the included anchors before inserting the screws.
3. Alternatively, use the included adhesive strips — peel, stick, and press firmly for 30 seconds.
4. Clip the Keypad directly onto the magnetic plate. It will snap into place and can be removed and reattached easily.
✓ | TIP The magnetic mount means you can quickly remove the Keypad for charging without unscrewing anything. |
Using your Keypad 2 every day
Arming and disarming your system
There are two ways to change your system mode from the Keypad:
Quick-arm (no PIN needed):
• Press AWAY to arm in Away mode
• Press HOME to arm in Home mode
PIN code + mode:
• Enter your PIN, then press AWAY, HOME, or STANDBY
• STANDBY always requires a PIN — you cannot quick-arm to disarm
! | NOTE If you enter an incorrect PIN, the Keypad will beep 4 times and the logo will flash red 5 times. After 5 failed attempts within 10 minutes, the Keypad will lock out for 5 minutes as a security measure. |
Triggering emergency alarms
In an emergency, you can activate alarms directly from the Keypad — no PIN required:
Emergency type | How to activate |
Panic | Hold the AWAY button for 3 seconds |
Fire | Hold the HOME button for 3 seconds |
Medical | Hold the STANDBY button for 3 seconds |
Turning motion detection on or off
Motion detection is enabled by default. To toggle it:
1. Hold down the 4 and 6 keys simultaneously for 3 seconds.
2. The Keypad will confirm the change with a beep.
3. To reverse the change, repeat the same hold.
! | NOTE Disabling motion detection on the Keypad also disables its Occupancy Sensor — this means it will no longer trigger any alarms or CUE automations based on motion. |
Turning button sounds on or off
To mute or unmute keypress, door-open, and countdown sounds:
1. Hold down the 7 and 9 keys simultaneously for 3 seconds.
2. The Keypad will confirm with a single beep (or go silent if you've just muted it).
3. Repeat to reverse the change.
Quick-arm setting
Quick-arm is enabled by default. To turn it off (so a PIN is always required to arm):
1. Log in to the Abode app.
2. Go to System Settings.
3. Find the Quick-Arm setting and toggle it off. Click Save.
! | NOTE If you don't see the Quick-Arm option in System Settings, your Hub may need a firmware update. Contact the Abode support team at support@goabode.com and they will assist. |
Managing PIN codes
You can add up to 40 unique PIN codes — useful for family members, housesitters, or anyone who needs regular access to your system. All PIN code management is done from the Abode App.
Adding a new PIN code
1. Open the Abode app.
2. Navigate to menu, then System Settings.
3. Scroll to the Keypad PIN Codes section.
4. Click Add PIN Code on the right-hand side.
5. Enter a User Name and a User Code, then click Save.
✓ | TIP Give each PIN a meaningful name (e.g. 'Front door — cleaner' or 'Dog walker') so you can identify and manage them easily. You can edit or delete any code from the same screen. |
Using motion detection with CUE automations
Because your Keypad 2 pairs as an Occupancy Sensor as well as a Keypad, you can use motion detection to trigger smart automations — not just alarms.
For example:
• When motion is detected → turn on a power outlet or smart light
• When motion is detected → send a push notification
• When no motion is detected for 30 minutes → turn off lights
To set up a CUE automation, visit goabode.com/meet-cue for a full walkthrough of the automations builder.
Charging and battery life
Your Keypad 2 runs on a built-in 3000mAh rechargeable battery that lasts up to 6 months on a single charge under normal use.
First-time charge
• Charge for at least 4 hours before use, using the included Micro USB cable and any 5V USB port
• The green LED will be solid while charging and will turn off when fully charged
Low battery
• When the battery is low, the Keypad's red LED will blink twice every 60 seconds
• A low battery alert will also appear in the Abode app and on your Hub
Battery draining faster than expected?
A constant orange LED usually means there is an active system fault. While a fault is present, your Keypad works harder and drains faster. Here's what to do:
1. Open the Abode app and check for any active alerts or faults on your dashboard.
2. Resolve the fault — for example, ensure all door and window sensors are properly closed and registered.
3. Once the fault is cleared, the orange light will go off and battery life should return to normal.
Resetting your Keypad 2
A factory reset restarts your Keypad and clears any local settings (such as disabled motion detection). It does not unpair your Keypad from your Hub.
1. Locate the reset button on the back of the Keypad, in the bottom left corner.
2. Use a paperclip or similar tool to press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
3. Release. Your Keypad will restart automatically.
! | NOTE A factory reset will restore default settings, including re-enabling motion detection if you had disabled it. It will not remove the Keypad from your Abode account. |
Troubleshooting
Keypad won't arm the system
This usually means there's a system fault preventing arming — for example, a door sensor showing as open when it isn't.
1. Open the Abode app to see if any device is showing a fault.
2. Resolve the fault (e.g. close the door properly or check the sensor alignment).
3. Alternatively, re-enter your PIN and press your desired mode to force-arm and override the fault.
Keypad not responding / won't pair
1. Confirm your Keypad has sufficient charge — connect it to power and wait 10 minutes.
2. Move your Keypad closer to the Hub during pairing, then reposition after setup.
3. Try a factory reset (see above), then attempt pairing again from the Abode app.
Motion detection not working
1. Check that motion detection hasn't been disabled — hold 4 + 6 for 3 seconds to re-enable.
2. Confirm the Occupancy Sensor is visible as a device in your Abode app.
3. Make sure the Keypad is mounted at approximately 4.5 feet with a clear line of sight.
Incorrect PIN locked out
After 5 failed PIN attempts within 10 minutes, the Keypad disables for 5 minutes. This is a security feature. Simply wait 5 minutes and try again with the correct PIN.
