Garage Tilt Sensor

The Garage Tilt Sensor detects when any surface tilts, like a garage door rising, or a basement or attic tilt window opening. Mount it once and it will silently monitor the position of the door or window at all times, sending an instant alert to your Abode Hub the moment it tilts more than 45° from its resting position.

It works in both directions, opening and closing, so your system knows the exact status of your garage door or tilt window at all times, whether you are home or away.

The Garage Tilt Sensor is designed for any door or window that tilts when it opens or closes. Common uses include:

• Overhead garage doors (up-and-over or tilt-style)

• Attic hatch doors

• Basement tilt windows

• Any hinged panel that swings open at an angle

The LED indicator shows different flash patterns depending on what the sensor is doing:

You will need your Abode Hub connected and the Abode app installed before pairing.

1. Pull out the battery insulator tab to power on the sensor.

2. Open the Abode app and navigate to Add Device.

3. Select "Door & Window Sensors" from the device category list.

4. Select "Garage Tilt Sensor" and tap Continue.

5. Press the Test Button once. The LED will flash 3 times to confirm it is transmitting a pairing code.

6. The sensor will appear in the app - tap Add, name it (e.g. Garage Door or Attic Hatch), and tap Next to finish.

Use Test Mode to verify the sensor detects tilt correctly and is within wireless range of your Hub before committing to a permanent position.

1. Press the Test Button once to enter Test Mode. Test Mode is active for 3 minutes.

2. Tilt the surface the sensor will be mounted on - the LED will light up each time a tilt is detected.

3. Confirm that tilt events appear in the Abode app Timeline.

4. If no signal is received, try moving the sensor closer to the Hub and re-test.

5. To extend Test Mode for another 3 minutes, press the Test Button again before the timer runs out.

The sensor detects movement relative to its mounted position. Once installed, it treats its current angle as the closed baseline. Any tilt greater than 45° from that baseline triggers an alert. This makes correct mounting orientation essential.

• Mount on the top panel of the overhead garage door, not on the frame or wall

• The sensor must be mounted vertically (upright) and be no more than plus or minus 5 degrees from vertical when installed

• Mount the LED indicator facing up for optimal performance

• The recommended mounting height is approximately 6 feet (1.8 meters) above the ground for best detection performance

• Mount on a dry, clean surface only

• Not designed for roll-up garage doors, only for overhead tilt-style doors

1. Choose a suitable location on the top panel of the garage door. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly if needed.

2. Use the two mounting holes on the sensor as a template to mark and drill the mounting holes on the door.

3. For plaster or brick surfaces, insert the included wall plugs. Ensure the plugs sit flush with the surface.

4. Screw the sensor into position with the LED indicator on top.

1. Choose a suitable location on the top panel of the garage door. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly if needed.

2. Remove the protective covering from one side of the double-sided adhesive pad and press it firmly against the back of the sensor for 30 seconds to ensure good contact.

3. Remove the protective covering from the other side of the adhesive pad.

4. With the garage door fully closed, press the sensor firmly onto the door panel for 30 seconds.

The Garage Tilt Sensor uses one CR123A 3V Lithium battery with an expected life of up to 10 years under normal operating conditions. Always replace the battery with the correct size and voltage.

When the battery is low, a low battery signal is sent automatically to your Hub and you will receive a notification in the Abode app. When the battery is fully exhausted, the LED will flash every 4 seconds and the sensor will stop all functions.

1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the sensor.

2. Remove the old battery.

3. Press the Tamper Switch twice to fully discharge any remaining voltage before inserting a new battery.

4. Insert a new CR123A 3V Lithium battery.

5. Close the battery compartment. The sensor will resume normal operation automatically.

The Garage Tilt Sensor includes a built-in tamper switch. When the sensor is mounted flush against the surface, the tamper switch is fully compressed. If the sensor is removed from its mounted surface or its cover is opened, the tamper switch activates, the LED flashes 6 times, and a tamper alert is sent to your Hub immediately, even if your system is in Standby mode.

The Garage Tilt Sensor automatically transmits a supervisory signal to your Hub every 30 to 50 minutes. This allows your Hub to confirm the sensor is communicating correctly. If the Hub fails to receive any supervisory signals over a preset period, an Out-Of-Order fault message will be generated and you will receive a notification in the Abode app.

1. Confirm the battery insulator has been removed and the sensor is powered on - the LED should flash 3 times when you press the Test Button.

2. Make sure your Hub is in Pairing Mode in the Abode app before pressing the Test Button.

3. Move the sensor closer to the Hub and try again. Thick garage doors or walls can reduce wireless range.

4. Remove the battery, press the Tamper Switch twice to discharge, reinsert the battery, and repeat the pairing process.

This usually means the sensor was mounted while the door was not fully closed, or the sensor has shifted. Try these steps:

1. Close the garage door fully.

2. Remove and re-mount the sensor flat against the top panel with the door in the fully closed position.

3. Test by opening and closing the door to confirm the correct open and closed states appear in the Abode app.

1. Confirm the sensor is paired and showing as Online in the Abode app.

2. Enter Test Mode and manually tilt the sensor - if the LED lights up and an event appears in the app, the sensor is working correctly and the issue may be the mounting angle.

3. Confirm the sensor is mounted within plus or minus 5 degrees of vertical. An incorrectly angled installation will affect detection reliability.

4. Ensure the door tilts by at least 45° when opening. Low-clearance doors that open with minimal tilt may not reach the trigger threshold.

Check that the sensor is firmly mounted and the cover is fully closed against the mounting surface. If the sensor was recently removed and reinstalled, the tamper alert will clear once the sensor re-establishes communication with the Hub.

This means the Hub has not received a supervisory signal from the sensor within the expected window. Check the battery level and confirm the sensor is within wireless range of the Hub. If the sensor appears online after checking, the fault will clear automatically on the next supervisory transmission.
