Abode Cam 2 Installation Guide

Choosing the right location and mounting your Abode Cam 2

A well-positioned camera is far more effective than one that is simply pointed in the right direction. This guide helps you plan the best location, route your cable, and mount the camera securely.

TIP

Complete the setup process in the Abode app before mounting the camera permanently. This way you can confirm the camera is working and connected to Wi-Fi before you commit to a final position.

Step 1. Plan your camera location

The Abode Cam 2 uses pixel-based motion detection, meaning any change to the pixels in its field of view can trigger a motion event. To get the best performance from clip recording mode, keep the field of view as free from constant movement as possible.

• Avoid aiming the camera at trees, bushes, or areas prone to shadows and reflections

• If constant movement in the view is unavoidable, set up a Detection Zone to focus only on the area that matters

• For areas with heavy ongoing movement, consider enabling 24/7 recording instead of clip recording

TIP

For example, if your camera overlooks a front path with garden shrubs alongside it, set a Detection Zone over just the path. Pixel changes from wind-blown shrubs outside the zone will not trigger a clip.

Step 2. Plan your cable route

Before drilling anything, plan where the 6-foot USB power cable will run. The camera must stay within reach of a power source. Mount the camera out of direct sunlight and under a shelter where possible for the best image quality and camera longevity.

Step 3. Install the mount screw

If you are mounting the camera on a wall or ceiling using the built-in wall hook:

1. Use a 1/16-inch (2mm) drill bit to drill a pilot hole.

2. Insert the screw using a Phillips screwdriver. Leave enough of the screw head exposed to slide the camera mount hook over it.

For drywall or masonry

1. Use a 7/32-inch (5.5mm) drill bit to drill a pilot hole.

2. Gently hammer the included wall anchor into the pilot hole.

3. Drive the screw into the anchor using a Phillips screwdriver, leaving enough of the head exposed for the camera mount to hook onto.

Step 4. Mount the camera

1. Slide the camera over the exposed screw head using the wall hook on the back of the mount.

2. If the camera feels loose, use a screwdriver to drive the screw slightly deeper. If it does not slide on easily, back the screw out a little.

3. Route the USB cable through the opening on the camera mount and down the notch on the back of the mount to keep it tidy.
