Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Removing the Interior Assembly of the Existing Lock
Step 1: Removing the Interior Assembly of the Existing Lock
1. Secure the keyed side (exterior part where the key is inserted) with adhesive tape:
It's advisable to use adhesive tape to firmly secure the keyed side of the lock in place, ensuring stability during the replacement process (see the illustration below for reference).
2. Prioritize unlocking before removal:
Before removing the Thumb Turn, ensure that your existing lock is unlocked. This step is crucial for a smooth removal of the Thumb Turn and subsequent actions.
3. Unscrew and extract deadbolt Thumb Turn:
Carefully unscrew and completely remove the screws securing the Thumb Turn of your existing deadbolt lock. This prepares the lock for the next step in the replacement process (see the illustration below for reference).
4. Dismantle the interior assembly:
Take apart the interior assembly of the existing lock, ensuring that you remove all relevant components. Set aside any reserved parts for potential use or safekeeping.
Step 3: Select the Adapter with the Corresponding Tailpiece Shape
Step 3: Select the Adapter with the Corresponding Tailpiece Shape
If your lock brand is not in the chart, slide each adapter onto the tailpiece to find the right one. There are four adapters provided to match any deadbolt tailpiece. The correct adapter will have one of the triangular tabs pointing up.
Tailpiece orientation is with the latch bolt retracted.
Remember that your deadbolt’s tailpiece may be oriented differently depending on the side of the door that the hinges are on. Shown below are examples of three standard deadbolts that are illustrative of this.
