Frequently asked questions about the Abode Color Bulb

Will the bulb work without an Abode hub?

Yes. The Color Bulb works without a Security Hub or Iota Hub.

How many bulbs can I connect to the hub?

There is no hard-set limit on the number of bulbs you can connect.

Can I automate the bulb to change colors and brightness?

Yes. With CUE Automations you can automate color and brightness changes. CUE requires the Standard or Pro plan.

Can I use the bulb outdoors?

The bulb is moisture resistant but not IP rated or waterproof. Prolonged exposure to the elements may cause problems. The bulb may be used outdoors in a well-ventilated fixture that protects it from direct water.

Is the bulb compatible with HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant?

The bulb works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. There are no current plans to integrate the Color Bulb with HomeKit.

Does the bulb connect via Wi-Fi or AbodeRF?

The bulb connects via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The initial connection during setup is through Bluetooth.

Is the bulb weatherproof?

The bulb is moisture resistant but not waterproof rated.

What are the minimum and maximum working temperatures?

-4 degrees F to 104 degrees F.

Can I control the bulb with Z-Wave dimmers?

No.

Is the bulb compatible with a 3-way lamp?

No.

What is the expected life of the smart bulb?

22.8 years based on 3 hours of use per day.

How do I pair the bulb?

Follow the on-screen prompts in the Abode app. The bulb cannot be paired via the Abode web app. See the Color Bulb Setup Guide for detailed instructions.

How do I reset the bulb?

First, delete the bulb from your Abode app in the Devices menu. Power the bulb on and off 3 times in quick succession at the light switch. The bulb will pulse blue once reset.

Can I control multiple bulbs at the same time in a group?

Yes. You can control a group of bulbs at the same time via CUE Automations.

What is the minimum and maximum brightness level?

The bulb brightness is adjustable up to 800 lumens.

What happens if I lose power or internet?

If power is lost, the bulb will turn off. When power is restored, it will return to the previous known setting. If only internet is lost, you will lose the ability to control the bulb through the Abode app, but you can still turn the bulb on and off via the physical power switch.
